Persimmon Tops
One of my favorite personal items is a toy top from my childhood. For such a simple object, it's capable of providing so much joy. I was inspired to design my own with a unique spin after seeing the intricate toy tops by Armin Kolb and ornate ceramic pieces by Taketoshi Ito.

Persimmons are one of my favorite fruits, and served as the inspiration for the form language of the tops, as well as their materiality. The tops are made from persimmon wood, and I used the four-leafed persimmon stem as inspiration for my generative patterns.

I designed these tops as an exercise for learning the Houdini software. With its procedural capabilities, it opened a world for me to streamline the process of creating intricate patterns with ease for iteration. The tops were created in Houdini and rendered in Cinema4D and Redshift.

Through these images, I wanted to visualize the moment of when someone walks by a friend's shelves and discovers something intriguing. The environment is inspired by minimalistic home interiors with wooden accents that embrace natural lighting.
